Arabic worldmusic with oud, violin, guitar and percussion
Oriental, traditional and modern

Maqamundo is a musical project born from the combined forces of Maruan Betawi (Oud/Guitar), Ismael Betawi (Violin/Percussion) and Marliese Glück (Percussion).
The meaning of the name Maqamundo comes from ‘maqam’, which represents the Arabic music scale and the word ‘mundo’ , meaning ‘world’ in Spanish. The ensemble draws from the richness of the Arabic music by performing well-known, traditional pieces and further improving it’s repertoire with it’s own compositions. Western music influences inspired the group to follow new ways, intertwining Flamenco sounds with the Arabic character of the Oud. The result is an original music, traditional Arabic and equally global.
